Boys Varsity Football

UNIONDALE, LI - On Saturday, as we all know by now, the Cardinal Hayes varsity team (4-5) lost the CHSAA “AAA” championship game against our archrivals Archbishop Stepinac (7-4) by a score of 29-18.
Right now, I believe a recap of this heartbreaking game isn’t what’s needed as supporters of this “tough as nails” Cardinals’ team.
If I may, I just want to say a few things:
We as supporters shouldn’t get mad or cry over the loss but, be thankful for all the hard work they had put into the 2018 season and especially the playoff run they had.
We have to thank the team for defying the odds. Our Cardinals may have had a subpar regular season but they also had an amazing playoff run. Our Cardinals beat the No. 1 seeded St. Anthony’s 26-25 in a one-point victory. Supporters and players should look at the positives rather than the negatives.
I had the pleasure to stand with this team on the sidelines as opposed to writing in the stands. And let me tell you: it was all worth it. The experience I had up close to the field standing side by side with my Hayesmen brothers made up for the brutal weather.
I just want to thank all those who came to Long Island in the wintry weather to support the team. The season is not over. We still have one game to play. The season was a true testament of courage and obedience. Those seniors who played in this game gave every ounce of their energy and were extremely proud of them.
It may not have been the ending we all expected but we still have the most important game of the season to play, “The Turkey Bowl” against – you guessed it: Mount Saint Michael.
At the end of the day, we have to bounce back and it only gets better from here.
Beat the Mount! Up Hayes And All It’s Loyal Men!
