BOUNCE BACK: After Four-Game Losing Streak, Hayes Beat Farrell and Stevenson

By Danny Torres '84

BRONX - The most difficult job for any coach or manager on any level is keeping the players optimistic and upbeat after a loss.

Coach Encarnación and his staff had to deal with not only one loss but a four-game losing streak.

Heading home to face Monsignor Farrell at Roberto Clemente Park, Encarnación knew he desperately needed a win and handed the ball to senior Brandon González.  His left-handed starter pitched 5 2/3 innings while allowing only one run. Not only did he pitch extremely well, he kept Farrell's batters in check and off-balance throughout the game.

The Hayes' offense arrived to play and along with Justin "JC" Cabrera, who went 2 for 3, Domingo Corporan connected with a huge double to give the Cardinals the lead and a 4-3 victory.

Corporan even showed his pitching prowess by throwing in relief and picking up the quick save.

Earlier today, the Cardinals completely annihilated Adlai E. Stevenson High School and let's just say the renowned high school, located on the Grand Concourse, defeated their Bronx counterparts in double-digit fashion.
